Job Summary:
MCR Health Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Information Specialist to join its healthcare team. The Health Information Specialist shall perform specific functions directly related to the preparation, maintenance and security of patient health information as it relates to the continuity and quality of patient care. Working in an extremely confidential environment, the Health Information Specialist analyses patient medical records (in both electronic and paper media) for compliance with established quality standards. The Health Information Specialist is responsible for assuring the availability of medical records for continued delivery of quality patient care, preparing the release of information in accordance with established policies and procedures, purging records and maintaining logs of purged records in accordance with established policies and procedures, and providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma. Associates or higher degree in a health information management or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clerical experience, preferably within a healthcare setting. Medical background and familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
  • Strong data entry skills required and must be attentive to detail.
  • Proficiency in the use of various computer software applications and office equipment, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Products - Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and scanning and copier equipment.
  • Familiarity with various types of filing systems (alphabetical, numerical filing, terminal digit color coding) preferred.
  • High degree of integrity and discretion when handling or informed of confidential patient information is imperative.
  • Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills.
